🏈 2 Underrated WRs & 1 Big Fight

Case for Godwin, Robert Woods, and Brevin Jordan. Q's on Jets rookies. Enjoy the meme.

Good morning. You know it's a slow day when Denzel Mims requesting a trade is big news. Now tell me this isn’t art:

We got you. And you got us. Today's edition with memes, rankings updates and a few hype pieces.

Market Watch

Breece Hall is missing open holes and Carter is "still the RB1." Betting on Derrick Henry's volume is gambling. Titan's won't win 12 games and Henry's more gamescript dependent than most realize.

Allen Lazard might never be a true #1 but will get a better shot than most. Upside play here. You'll read about Godwin below.

You can find our updated rankings here.

Hype

Bobby Trees & Chris Godwin

Chris Godwin started team drills and is expected to return around Week 4. Until he tore his ACL, Godwin led the Bucs in catches, targets, yards, routes run and was the 6th highest scoring WR in fantasy.

"Robert Woods (November 2021 ACL tear) will be ready to play Week 1" (video). Said his knee is “not even a thought.” Woods was WR11 last year before injury - currently drafted as WR39.

"Texans TE Brevin Jordan has eclipsed the 80% route participation mark we want from tight ends in every preseason game so far (w/ starters). 80% typically means top-12 TE season, historically." - @DwainMcFarland

  • JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) caught passes from Patrick Mahomes in pre-game warmups last night and looks ready for Week 1.

  • The Athletic's Mark Kaboly reports Kenny Pickett has seen an uptick in first-team reps and is making a push for starting duties.

Dameon Pierce on the Texans opening drive yesterday: 6 carries, 37 yards, 1 TD. And Pierce ran over a LB before breaking ankles (video). More Pierce:

Garrett Wilson was "having a real good practice. Uncanny ability to separate."

But there's this: The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported Garrett Wilson has "made a bad habit of following up highlight-reel catches with bad drops throughout camp." Rosenblatt also reported that the No. 10 overall pick "continues to make an impression with his elite-level athleticism." Drops don't worry me, and the rest is positive.

Fallers: Bad News in Dallas

The Cowboys. Yup - the entire team + fanbase. It was announced yesterday that LT Tyron Smith will undergo surgery on his injured left knee and is expected to be absent until "at least December."

  • Per @SportsInfo_SIS, Cowboys RBs yards per rush dropped a full yard (5.0 to 4.0) when Smith missed time in 2021.

"Archetype story you don’t wanna see in a guy’s ACL recovery: J.K. Dobbins (by all accounts is not on a typical schedule)". "Still think he’s being overvalued due to typical ACL Y1 dip, lack of rec work."

Breece Hall "might not be the elite prospect that everyone seems to think that he is. I'm even less sure that he's going to fill a three-down role as a rookie. Hall was not even significantly more efficient than his backfield teammates at the collegiate level." - @jagibbs_23. Yikes.

Here's a video of Hall missing open space and running into a defender.

Highlights

Fight Club

Almost every joint practice has led to a fight this offseason. Yesterday, Aaron Donald took on the entire Bengals roster. @JourdanRodrigue explained that this was the third fight of practice, with Bengals right tackle La’el Collins and Rams defensive end Leonard Floyd being the main combatants in each scrap. The full video here.

The NFL defers to teams on matters that occur during practice when it considers disciplinary action, so it’s unlikely that Donald will face league-sanctioned discipline.

Other post-fight internet-magic content:

  • La’el Collins when anyone touches Joe Burrow (video)

  • See the full gallery of photos from the fight (here)

  • The NFL reviewed the footage from the Aaron Donald incident and has decided to drug test Myles Garrett (@casey_kinnamon)

  • ASIDE from the fighting, here's a thread of other takeaways from a shortened Rams/Bengals practice

Overtime

Quick Slants

  • Tom Brady is expected to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Colts.

  • Drake London (knee) remains sidelined at Falcons practice.

  • There's a "strong possibility" Darren Waller misses Week 1 as he's "dealing with a hamstring strain" which are "known to reinjure." Buy the dip.

  • Treylon Burks (undisclosed) was held out of Thursday's practice after departing early on Wednesday. He's not worth touching in season-long leagues.

  • A high school in Illinois did a “Moms Night” where the mothers suited up and got to tackle their sons (video).

Tweet of the Day

If you're drafting this weekend, crush your leaguemates. Our rankings are 0.5 PPR and helpful for both standard and PPR.

For those of you thinking you could go zero RB without any consequences, Derrick Henry would like a word (video). See you Monday!
