🏈 Arrest that man

Trouble in Paradi... Washington. Deep dives & much more...

It's a good morning, unless you're Dan Snyder. The Washington Commanders owner is being investigated for engaging in "financial improprieties" by the US Attorney's Office. The inquiry was triggered by a letter sent to the Federal Trade Commission that alleged deceptive business practices.

The House committee said in its letter to the FTC that it had found evidence of deceptive business practices over the span of more than a decade, including withholding ticket revenue from visiting teams and refundable deposits from fans.

You can read the full report by ESPN here.

What's next?

Snyder and his wife also released a statement saying they are exploring potential transactions to sell the team.

After years of allegations against Snyder ranging from sexual assault on an airplane to underreporting ticket sales to avoid paying taxes, it appears Snyder may be finally forced to sell, a positive for the Commanders, the entire NFL and the entire human society.

DEEP DIVES

The idea is you pick up a player the week before everyone wants to grab them off the waiver wire. This column wins leagues like no other. Last week, the perfect pickups were Tyler Conklin and Isaiah Likely. This week's players, available in almost every league, worth grabbing:

  • James Mitchell (0.1%) - With TJ Hockenson traded to the Vikings, Mitchell is in line to get more snaps with HC Dan Campbell saying that they believe he is ready for it. You can read Scott Barrett's pre-combine prospect model on Mitchell here, but just know that Michell, not Brock Wright, is the right call here.

  • Demarcus Robinson (0.5%) - Robinson finished 2nd on the Ravens in receiving (behind Likely), mainly bc Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman got hurt. Robinson had 24% of the team target share and 21% of the team's air yards. With Bateman expected to miss a few weeks, Robinson has an opportunity for a bigger role going forward.

Also, why is no one talking about James Washingon? He was Dallas's main WR off-season signing after losing Amari Cooper and Cedric Wilson and was part of the reason Dallas didn't overpay for a WR at the deadline. He is "close to returning" which could be as soon as week 10 after their bye. His return should boost a Dallas O ranked 27th in the NFL. Potential deep/PPR league stash.

Another guy to keep an eye on: Packers WR Samori Toure.

THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

The 7-0 Philadelphia Eagles take on the second-worst team in the league Houston Texans. I bet this game will be close going into the 4th quarter.

Passing:

  • Jalen Hurts - Dominant all season and QB4 in total points, despite already having his bye week. He's on pace for over 700 rushing yards and 14 rushing TDs. NFL single-season record for rushing attempts by a QB is 176 by Lamar Jackson: Hurts is on pace for over 210.

  • Davis Mills - LOL

Rushing:

  • Dameon Pierce - Pierce is first among rookie RB's in rushing yards (539), yards per game (77) and receptions (20). He has scored a TD or had 100+ yards in 5 straight games. We're proud as we screamed his name from the rooftops all August. Eagles middling run D shouldn't stop Pierce, but gamescript could affect his touches.

  • Rex Burkhead - Saw a season low 10 snaps last week and only had 1 catch with zero carries. Treat like your ex. Avoid.

  • Miles Sanders - Sanders is quietly 6th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (80) and tied for 7th in total rushing yards on the season (563). He has cemented himself as a RB1 and is an automatic start every week, especially against Houston, who is league worst against the run.

  • Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott - Should be on your bench. Not waivers, there's some upside here.

Receiving:

  • Brandin Cooks - The only fantasy relevant pass-catcher on the team is questionable for Thursday due to personal reasons (the Texans suck and did not trade him). He has flex consideration if he plays, coming off a 4 catch, 73 yard game.

  • AJ Brown - After humiliating the Steelers' defence last week Brown gets an extremely soft matchup against the Texans. WR1 play.

  • Devonta Smith - Inconsistent: Outside of a 26.9-point Week 3, DeVonta Smith has only one game above 80 yards and one other with a TD.

  • Dallas Goedert - Goedert is 4th amongst TE's in receiving yards per game (60) this season and has had double digit performances in 5 of his 7 games. Borderline must start.

QUICK INJURY REVIEW

  • Keenan Allen said his hamstring injury got worse during the bye week and that he won't return unless he's 100%, leaving his status for Sunday very questionable.

  • Josh Palmer has a huge opportunity to potentially be the WR1 for the Chargers. Add everywhere available.

  • James Conner got in a limited practice on Wednesday but his status is still questionable for Sunday. Eno Benjamin's value will take a hit if he plays but should still have a significant role given his strong play in Conner's absence.

  • Jonathan Taylor missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury. Deon Jackson would be the main beneficiary if Taylor misses the game.

  • Cordarrelle Patterson has been taken off IR and practiced today with the possibility of returning this week.

Sean McVay's future with the Rams is tied to the "core group" of Donald, Kupp, Stafford and Ramsey and in all likelihood, once that group leaves, McVay will retire. Retire? Bruh! He's like 28 years old. Gotta admire the strategy though - trade all your future firsts, win now, retire, then rejoin another team with superstars in the future.

Also - you guys are our "core group". Thank you for joining us this morning, and every other.
