🏈 Buying Chris Olave

Spotlight on Amon-Ra & a few buys/sells

Good morning. Happy Friday! Congratulations to anyone who drafted Amari Cooper. Big 🧠 move. Also, congrats to Cole Beasley for his new rap song, “Chris Farley” - see the Tweet of the Day for lyrics.

If you missed the Browns v Steelers last night, here's a 10-minute video recap. At least watch this George Pickens catch (video link), which some say was better than OBJ's.

PROFILE

Spotlight: Amon-Ra St. Brown

Amon-Ra St. Brown was relatively unknown out of college. He ran an average 40-yard dash (4.66) and lacked elite size. St. Brown's best college season came during his sophomore year (unspectacular 77-1042-6). Despite USC's history of developing WRs and the fact that his dad was a two-time Mr. Universe, St. Brown fell to the 4th round of the 2021 draft (112 overall).

After trading Matthew Stafford to the Rams, the Lions were rebuilding their offense. They spent their early-round draft picks on linemen and rolled the dice with St. Brown, who was drafted behind 16 other WRs. He'll never forget it:

The Lions' pick paid off. Handsomely.

Year 1: Amon-Ra had a slow start to the season and then went full-blown nuclear (and won many fantasy titles). St. Brown saw double-digit targets in the Lions' final six games and scored 5 TDs over that span.

Through the first two weeks of 2022, St. Brown has dominated the passing game and has 68 rushing yards. Oh, and he's been averaging more points than Justin Jefferson in his last 8.

BUY & SELL

The case for...

Buying Christian Kirk: Kirk is a top-12 WR in PFF receiving grade, yards per route run, yards per reception, and yards after the catch per reception through two weeks. He's also getting elite usage in Jacksonville playing 91% of snaps, earning a 91% route participation, and a 25% target share. WR1 SZN. Buy if you can.

Selling James Robinson: Robinson has two top-12 finishes, but continues to leave the field in most passing-down situations, making him a game-script/touchdown-dependent option on an offense that could face more trailing scripts in the future.

Buying Dalvin Cook: Cook is one of the few backs that possesses a high-end RB1 utilization profile. However, he now has RB20 and RB38 finishes, which could frustrate your local Cook manager. Now is the time to swoop in and buy low on Cook, who has big days ahead (@dwainmcfarland).

Buying Chris Olave: Olave barely missed a massive day in the fantasy box score in Week 2. He led in targets (33%) and air yards with a mind-numbing 320 yards (63%). He was on the field for more routes (84%) than Jarvis Landry and was Winston’s favorite target on third downs (56%).

Most of the above per this great article called The Utilization Report (no paywall).

QUICK SLANTS

  • Christian McCaffrey is sick of being on the injury report. When asked about his ankle stiffness showing up on the injury report, CMC said "if I got to take a leak during practice, it'll end up on the report."

  • Gabe Davis (ankle) when asked how optimistic he is that he's going to play Sunday: "100%" - @agetzenberg

  • Dak Prescott was at practice Thursday. The Cowboys are hoping to have him back for week 4 or 5. Per @clarencehilljr

  • Even though Mitch Trubisky started last night, pregame reports from Cleveland indicated that the Steelers QB position is a "week-to-week evaluation" per @TomPelissero.

Thanks for joining us this morning. And don't forget to check out Cole Beasley's song
