The Morning Huddle - Oct 21
Welcome to the Oct 21st edition of the Morning Huddle. Yesterday was waiver claim day (there were no Tuesday games), so I hope you were successful in your claim for Boston Scott. If not, you might want to go check if he’s still available. For the sources and in-depth articles/tweets, follow the links.
As always, here are the top stories from across the NFL…
It’s TUA time
After TANK for TUA was successful, the Dolphins brought along their prized rookie carefully, opting to let Ryan Fitzmagic lead the team (he did an incredible job) in the meantime. Here’s what Fitz had to say about mentoring Tua (but maybe Fitz isn’t the best choice?).
Does Fitzmagic deserve a statue outside HardRock Stadium in Miami? Should it be something like this?
Miles Sanders remained sidelined during Tuesday’s practice
Sanders is expected to miss 1-2 weeks with a knee injury, but the fact that he has not been formally ruled out is a great sign for his Week 8 status. As a Miles Sanders owner myself, I’m very thankful it was not as bad as it looked. The downside of this is that frustrated fantasy owners can’t put him on IR to claim Boston Scott.
Is this guy way more talented than we give him credit for?
In case you don’t recognize the uber-talented 49ers RB in the above photo, it’s Raheem Mostert. He is the highest graded RB via PFF for the entire NFL 2020 season. He leads the NFL in Next Gen rushing yards over expected per attempt. He averages 6.1 yards per carry for his career. And he had the best stiff arm of Week 6 (King Henry was Week 5).
BUT… Mostert’s been placed on the IR with a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss at least three weeks. Get well soon, stud.
What about Mike Davis owners?
NFL Network reports Christian McCaffrey (the highest-paid RB in the NFL) will miss the Panther’s Week 7 game but “has a shot” at returning for Week 8 against the Falcons.
Mike Davis (not as highly paid) has been incredible in CMC’s absence. This once again proves the *real life* theory that RBs don’t matter? For the Bears fans out there, a quick reminder that the Bears cut Mike Davis in the offseason (And drafted Mitch Trubisky over…)
Quick hit of fantasy football info to help you beat your friends (and your enemies)
Target leaders through 6 weeks of NFL football at WR and RB. The softest/hardest schedules to-date at each position - helps you realize who’s overperformed despite tough matchups (Justin Herbert) and who’s benefited most from easier matchups (Julio Jones). My personal favourite, fantasy legend Evan Silva’s Post Week 6 Takeaways.
Cowboys players aren’t happy after a shellacking by the Cardinals
NFL Network's Jane Slater reports Cowboys players have begun publicly criticizing the coaching staff after originally agreeing to "keep things internal." Uh-oh. “Totally unprepared," were the words of one player. "They don’t teach. They don’t have any sense of adjusting on the fly.”
Sounds like something I’d say about my fifth grade Math teacher or Adam Gase, not a recently hired NFL coach reportedly making $30 million over 5 years. Yikes.
Does Sean McVay hate Cam Akers owners?
After an impressive showing during the Rams win against the Washington Football Team, McVay said “Aker’s workload will grow next week”. Guess how many touches McVay gave Akers in Week 6? If you guessed, 2, you’re too high. This is McVay’s justification when a reporter asked why.
That’s all for today folks - as always, let me know any updates or suggestions or just compliments about the Morning Huddle. Now go check if Boston Scott is still available.
