🏈 Deadline Madness

Trade deadline moves and stats for every position... except kicker...

Good morning. There were a record 12 trades made yesterday, the most ever made on any NFL trade deadline day. The trade deadline was better than most Thursday Night Football games.

A quick summary of the biggest trades:

Congratulations to the one lucky bettor under the user name NotCalvinRidley18, who will cash out $5,000 after placing a +10000 bet on Calvin Ridley's next team to be the Jaguars 2 hours before the trade was announced.

Today's newsletter has our weekly position-by-position rundown and key updates from around the NFL

From a fantasy perspective:

  • Chase Claypool goes from a crowded WR trio in Pittsburgh to being the WR1(B) in Chicago. The Bears rarely throw, but Claypool could be used in the Mark Andrews (big slot WR) role, given that Chicago is copying the Ravens offense.

  • T.J Hockenson joins an explosive Vikings pass-first offence where should see higher usage than he did in Detroit. Irv Smith will be placed on I.R with an ankle injury, as usual.

  • Chase Edmonds gets traded to the Broncos, making me laugh. That backfield is found under the word disaster in the dictionary.

  • Jeff Wilson Jr is off to Miami where he rejoins Mike McDaniels offence and teammate Raheem Mostert. Both should have a role in an offence they are familiar with and have had success, while Mostert's value takes a decent hit.

As for the guys leftover, the "Lions [are] now all-in on TE James Mitchell (he was in early last week)." Mitchell is a sneaky TE pickup in deeper leagues.

QUARTERBACKS

Tua Time...Again

Tua Tagovailoa faced the Lions defense. As expected, he finished as the QB1, throwing for 382 yards, 3 TDs and a 138.7 passer rating. He was PFF's highest graded QB and should be an elite fantasy QB in an explosive Dolphins offence.

  • Dak Prescott had his best game of the season throwing for 250 yards, 2 TDs and rushing for another 9 fantasy points. He appears recovered from the thumb injury that kept him out for 5 games this year: Looks like Dak's back.

  • Trevor Lawrence sucked against the Broncos, throwing for only 133 yards 1 TD and 2 INTs. The Jaguars are 0-5 in their last 5 and Lawrence is QB17 during that time. Like milk after a vacation, hard to trust.

Justin Fields continued to shine, finishing as QB5 while he rushed for 60 yards and a TD. Like we said weeks ago, Fields is an add in all formats. The additional of Chase Claypool can only help his passing numbers.

RUNNING BACKS

RB Studs Lead The Week

Obviously Alvin Kamara finished as the RB1, immediately after I traded him. After not scoring a TD all season (!) he scored three last week, rushing for one and catching two. He had 90 yards after the catch (led the NFL) and is 5th in the NFL in yards from scrimmage this season. He is the RB1 overall since returning from injury in Week 5.

  • Christian McCaffrey (Dairy Sanders) rushed for a TD, caught a TD and threw for a TD - the first time anyone's done that since LaDainian Tomlinson. He played 81% of snaps and looks to be the focal point of offence, especially with Deebo missing time.

  • Tony Pollard led RBs with 9.4 yards per carry. He finished with 147 yards and 3 TDs, starting in place of an injured Zeke (knee sprain). Unfortunately, Jerry Jones refuses to concede. Zeke will remain the Cowboys RB1.

Travis Etienne's first game without James Robinson was a success. He smashed with 156 rushing yards (2nd highest) and a TD, and has now increased his rushing total every single game in the past 5 weeks. He saw 77% of the snaps and has solidified himself as a weekly RB1 play.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Brown's Town

AJ Brown completely disrespected the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, catching 6 passes for 156 yards and 3 TDs. He was the highest graded WR (92.6) and the WR1 of the week. He also has more yards on the season (659) than all of the Titans WR's combined (658).

  • Tyreek Hill (961) and Jaylen Waddle (727) have the most yards by a WR duo (1,688) through the first 8 games of the season in NFL history. Waddle was WR3 and Hill was WR4 last week.

  • Since returning, Deandre Hopkins is first in catches, yards and targets. He is also WR1. Overall. Crazy to think we were drafting this guy in rounds 7-8 this offseason?.

  • Rondale Moore also was productive in week 8 with 7 catches, 92 yards and a TD. But the TD was a bit of a fluke play, so I'm skeptical.

Brandon Aiyuk has turned into a WR1 over the past 3 weeks. HC Kyle Shanahan called him one of the most "consistent" players all year. He was on the field for all but one snap and is on pace for career high numbers in catches, yards and TDs.

TIGHT END

Pitt's Finally Doesn't Stink

Kyle Pitts had his best game of the year on my bench, catching 5 passes for 80 yards and a TD. The Falcons are 5-0 when Pitts has 80+ receiving yards and 6-14 when he doesn't. I'm no math guy, but feed Pitts.

  • Tyler Conklin was TE1, catching 6 passes for 79 yards and 2 TDs. He had a season high 10 targets and could be a solid fantasy option going forward with the Jets passing more due to being bad (& Breece Hall's injury). Zach Wilson loves looking for his big TE in the Red Zone.

  • Evan Engram led the Jags in receiving and has caught at least 4 passes and 40+ yards in each of the past 4 games. Believe it or not, he's now a top-10 fantasy TE.

QUICK SLANTS

  • Brandin Cooks did not get moved, despite begging to be traded through his twitter likes. His status is up in the air for Week 9 with a "wrist" injury.

  • Melvin Gordon will continue to be the starting RB despite the Broncos trading for Chase Edmonds.

  • Dan Campbell said that they probably gave D'Andre Swift "one too many carries" last week and that he isn't back yet. Expect his usage to be monitored at least for week 9.

  • Despite having some swelling in his ankle, Cooper Kupp is expected to play this week against the Bucs.

This morning or afternoon is a great time to do something nice for someone else. Like send them this newsletter.
