šŸˆ Dear Football

Why help with chores when you can read epic content...

Good morning. We're 6 weeks in and teams are in panic mode. My motto: never tank, go all-in every year. That said, I also spend a good portion of my day writing a fantasy football newsletter and making memes (see below). And if my stock portfolio is any indication, I don't know anything about anything.

But I'm 3-2 in my home league...

Heck of a season, team. I'm proud of you guys.

In today's newsletter, we summarize hours worth of content to find you the best. Injury news, WR/CB matchups, start/sits & much more.

Best Reads of the Day

NFL News Mailbag: Odell Beckham Jr. potential free-agent destinations, Patriots QB competition and more, by Doug Kyed.

"Rhamondre Stevenson should go off again this week. He carried the ball 25 times for 161 yards last week against the Lions, who rank 32nd in EPA per run play against. Now heā€™ll face the Browns, who rank 31st in EPA per run play against and just allowed 238 yards with two touchdowns to the Chargers RBs. The Patriots love Stevenson. They have the utmost confidence in him on all three downs, and thereā€™s good reason for it. Over the last two seasons, Stevenson ranks third among qualified running backs in overall PFF grade and fifth in rushing grade."

PFF's Rest of season rankings. "Breece Hall and Dameon Pierce are among the top 10 running backs in fantasy points, leading them into the top 10 backs over the rest of the season."

Fantasy Life's Rankings & Tiers: "Alvin Kamara is a mid-range RB1 who could boom in the passing attack. The Saints wonā€™t have Michael Thomas (toe) or Jarvis Landry (ankle) again this weekend, and Andy Dalton will start. That recipe led to an old-school Kamara workload in Week 5, where the veteran back saw a mouth-watering 25% target share on his way to 25.9 fantasy points."

"Tyler Lockett is a SMASH play in Week 6. Lockett is averaging 19.7 points per game over the last four contests with an eye-popping 29% target share. The Seahawks face a Cardinals secondary with the worst PFF receiving grade (36.8) that allows 60 points per game (sixth) to pass catchers," via Dwain McFarland (goat) from Fantasy Life.

NFL Buy or Sell: Zach Wilson's improvement. "Is Wilson's improvement an aberration, or should we be buying into his recent performances? One AFC executive sees improvement from Wilson but notes that offensive additions aided his development. Wilson currently ranks 8th among all NFL signal-callers in PFF grade. While the wheels could still fall off, heā€™s on the right path after a shaky rookie season."

Week 6 Mismatch Manifesto & Top Blow-Up Picks. "Donā€™t be surprised if this is finally the week that George Kittle blows up: The Falcons have posted bottom-three marks in targets (45), receptions (34) and receiving yards (355) allowed to the TE position through five weeks.

There is nothing fluky about how Geno Smith and Russell Wilson have started the 2022 NFL season, by Seth Galina. "With Russell Wilson, he was always playing from behind. Standing at 5-foot-11 and not being Drew Brees ā€” no matter how badly he thought he was ā€” meant that as his career went on, his targets to the middle of the field became increasingly rare. Back in the Pacific Northwest, Geno Smith is playing like the best quarterback in the NFL. It could not get any more poetic. He can do it all. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron was brought in during the 2021 offseason to help ā€œRam-ifyā€ the Seahawks' offense, which could not happen under Wilson." Worth a read.

Fantasy Points' Week 6 Start/Sit. "Sit: Matthew Stafford vs. Panthers. Stafford and this Rams offense are struggling against zone coverage right now, due in large part because the Rams have no speed at WR and canā€™t stretch the defense vertically. Stafford is dead last in fantasy points scored per dropback vs. zone coverage (0.23), which isnā€™t good news considering that the Panthers are running zone at the fifth-highest rate (74%)."

QUICK SLANTS

  • Chris Olave (concussion) is expected to sit, per Schefty.

  • CeeDee Lamb didnā€™t practice on Friday after an absent week on the injury report. Hopefully, we find out more info this morning.

  • Diontae Johnson (hip, not listed) is good to go despite opening the week with a limited practice. Fire him up as a volume-based borderline WR2 destined for big days ahead, considering the number of near misses heā€™s experienced in past weeks.

  • Robbie Anderson is on the trading block and could be moved any day now. As if we care.

  • Carson Wentz suffered a fractured finger on his throwing hand, which explains a lot. His availability moving forward is up in the air.

  • Each week, Ryan McDowell tracks the top-12 FF performances scored & allowed by each team. This helps him identify games to target & avoid when setting lineups. Here's his epic thread.

Thanks for joining us this morning, letā€™s have an epic Sunday.
