Position reviews, Jaylen Warren, Josh Allen's injury & much more.
Good morning. If you're thinking of tanking for Bijan Robinson in your fantasy league, just follow Jim Irsay's playbook:
I’ve talked about this on pods MANY times
Irsay following my 4-part rebuild plan to a T
1. Feign insanity
2. Start a random Day 3 QB all year
3. Fire your coach, replace him with the least-qualified most-incompetent candidate you can find
4. Finish last, take elite QB at 1.01— Scott Barrett (@ScottBarrettDFB)

Some real quotes from Jim Irsay's press conference to introduce new Colts HC Jeff Saturday: "I'm glad he doesn't have any experience" — "and there was no one else available"
Today's newsletter has deep dives and a position-by-position rundowns. Just what the Dr. ordered.
QUARTERBACKS
HEADLINERS
"There's hope in Buffalo that Josh Allen will be able to practice and play his way through this injury." However, despite various reports out there, ESPN’s @JeffDarlington said there isn’t enough of an update on Allen’s UCL test results to give any sort of indication on his playing status so far for this week. We have faith in Josh, especially given he threw the ball 69 yards after suffering the injury (video).
Justin Fields is averaging over 100 rushing yards per game over the last four weeks, 20 yards better than Lamar Jackson's record breaking 80.4 YPG in 2019. Fields is seeing 8.7 designed runs per game (most in the NFL), per Scott Barrett.
Tua Tagovailoa has made five full starts (Weeks 1-2 + 7-9). In those games, Tua's averaging 24.9 fantasy points per game — which is more than QB3 Jalen Hurts, per Graham Barfield.
Since Week 5 Justin Herbert is averaging 5.4 yards per pass attempt, ahead of only Mac Jones.
How can you not root for Geno Smith:
We're 9 games into season. Geno Smith:
* Leads NFL in completion percentage
* 6th in yards per attempt
* 4th in QBR
* 3rd in passer ratingIncredible story. With all due respect to Saquon, Geno should be Comeback Player Year. NFL and public (myself included) left him for dead.

RUNNING BACKS
Wilsoonnnnnnn
Jeff Wilson has seen 10+ carries in 16 career games. His totals: 1,235 yds, 12 TDs & 258 fantasy points, which would've ranked as the RB5 last year.
From a Steelers reporter: "I think Tomlin is benching Najee. I expect Jaylen Warren to be the workhorse Sunday. And I give Tomlin credit for doing it." Crazy. Add Warren everywhere.
James Conner dominated snaps in his first game back from his rib cartilage injury and suffered no setbacks. Despite a tough schedule, Conner's involvement in the passing game makes him a great buy low.
Week 9 RB Fantasy Usage
1 Joe Mixon (27.1 exp half PPR)
2 Ken Walker (24.2) **dog**
3 Austin Ekeler (23.3)
4 Travis Etienne (22.7)
5 Dalvin Cook (21.9)
6 Rhamondre Stevenson (21.2)
7 Jamaal Williams (16.1)
8 Dameon Pierce (15.8)
9 Leonard Fournette (15.2)

WIDE RECEIVERS
What's wrong with God(win)?
Chris Godwin's issue this year is not volume. "He's at 9.3 targets per game, was at 9.1 last year." One problem is his average depth of target (down to just 6.0 yards) and yards after the catch (only 5.0 yards) are both down around 20% from last season. But the biggest reason might be TDs: The Bucs are averaging just 1.1 passing TD per game in 2022. Last year, they led entire the league with 2.5.
Tyreek Hill is on pace for 2,085 yards, which would break the receiving yardage record (1,964 yards) held by Calvin Johnson.
Mecole Hardman has more PPR points this year than Courtland Sutton, Gabe Davis, Chris Godwin, Darnell Mooney, and Brandin Cooks.
Jaylen Waddle stands out as "the biggest candidate to fall off from difference making production" in Cooper Adams' PPG v xFP chart, coming in at almost 6ppg over expected.
George Pickens could be a Post-Bye Rookie Bump king with Chase Claypool out and the Steelers dropping back to pass a ton, per Hayden Winks.
Another rookie WR, Garrett Wilson, is up to 1.91 yards per route run as a rookie who has dealt with shaky QB play. Very impressive.
Read/watch this thread on Garrett Wilson, especially if he's on your fantasy team. "He processes the picture so fast you'd never see it at full speed. He's a phenom. Impossible processing speed." You'll love to see it:
Every week you see Garrett Wilson shake the snot out of someone.
It's instantaneous.
But not spontaneous. With his pre-catch leaps, he scans for defender location. This allows him to instantly make a cut when he lands.

TIGHT END
Dallas, in Philly
Dallas Goedert leads all receivers (hint: not just TEs) in expected points added (EPA) per target: (+0.79). Third among TEs in yards per route run, Goedert has an 88.0 receiving grade (3rd), 29 receptions (3rd) and 216 yards after the catch (1st) since Week 4. And the Eagles had a bye in W7... With 9+ fantasy points 7/8 games, Goedert is the breakout TE of 2022.
Isaiah Likely is a TE1 whenever Mark Andrews (shoulder, knee) misses time. Likely ran 20 routes on 25 Lamar Jackson dropbacks and saw a team-high 5 targets for a 22.7% share, per Adam Levitan.
Week 9 TE Fantasy Usage
1 Travis Kelce (19.4 exp half PPR)
2 Dallas Goedert (14.1)
3 T.J. Hockenson (13.7) on 91% routes
4 Cade Otton (12.2)
5 Zach Ertz (12.0)
6 Cole Kmet (10.7)
7 Gerald Everett (10.3)
8 Robert Tonyan (7.8)
9 Kyle Pitts (7.7)
10 Noah Fant (6.7)— Hayden Winks (@HaydenWinks)

DEEP DIVES
The idea is you pick up a player the week before everyone wants to grab them off the waiver wire. This column wins leagues like no other. Last week, the perfect pickups were Cade Otton and Terrace Marshall, both guys we've highlighted here. This week's players, available in almost every league, worth grabbing:
Samori Toure (0.1%) - Romeo Doubs is out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain, Randall Cobb is on the IR, Sammy Watkins been washed, Christian Watson can't stay healthy and Amari Rodgers isn't good. It could be that simple, but Toure also looks good. The 24-y/o Packers WR has seen at least 4 targets in back-to-back games including a TD) and could've had another if Rodgers didn't underthrow him - but it worked out well, because now you can add him everywhere.
Chris Moore (0.2%) - With Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins out, Moore led the Texans in receptions (4), tied for first in targets (5) and had 10+ fantasy points (49 yards + TD). Moore has scored a TD in 2/3 weeks and could see similar production if Nico Collins continues to miss time (e
Also, why is no one talking about Jerick McKinnon, who saw 8 targets against the Titans on Sunday night. The most productive of the trio of backs Kansas City, McKinnon is clearly the best but hasn't convinced coaches he can handle a bigger workload. If he ever convinces them (unlikely, but possible), you're holding the KC Chiefs RB1. Check if he’s available.
The #Chiefs best running back by a country mile is McKinnon but they are naturally afraid he can’t last a whole season so they are messing about with Pacheco and CEH.
As we’ve said before tho, and the snaps reflect it from yesterday, when they need a real running back, he plays.
