A new star-TE, RB2 emerges and trades, trades everywhere

Good morning. I donā€™t understand why the Browns continue to give Nick Chubb so many touches when Kareem Hunt is clearly the one on my fantasy team.

Gold from Chuck Bass

And it's Bailey Zappe time. The Patriots former backup QB stole the job from Mac Jones last night. Play-calling change helped:

Today's newsletter covers all the critical Waiver Wire talk you need to win your league.

Stash of the Week

Thanks to The Athletic, we can justify skirting life's responsibilities to write this newsletter for free, for you. Thanks to The Athletic, we read articles like Davis Mills, Cade Otton and more Week 8 waiver wire standouts to add now by John Laghezza. One clip about Bills RB James Cook:

"With Buffalo on bye next week (rookie post-bye bump, anyone?) there should be roughly zero competition for James Cook right now. If youā€™re thinking about playoffs, thereā€™s not another RB Iā€™d rather stash. If things break right for James Cook, he instantly becomes a 100% FAAB spend (the precise scenarios we speculate on getting in front of)."

WAIVERS

First, if George Pickens and Isiah Pacheco are available, they are priorities. Justin Fields should be stashed everywhere.

RUNNER: Gus Edwards

Gus Edwards was our deep dive last week. Despite the Ravens using a three-man rotation, Gus Edwards returned to the Ravensā€™ lineup and had a two-touchdown, 18+ point performance. Edwards is a fantasy starter going forward and his role should only expand. Plus, the Ravens have one of the easiest remaining schedules.

  • Rachaad White: starter Leonard Fournette has finished at 3.0 YPC or lower in 5/6 games, while White played a season high 44% of snaps. There's a chance he wins the role.

  • Chubba Hubbard started the game and was the preferred back in Carolina, as the Panthers continued to rely heavily on their ground attack. He suffered an injury in the 4Q but "could've returned."

Justice Hill didn't score the TDs, but played almost as much as Gus Edwards and is available everywhere.

CATCHER: Greg Dulchich

Greg Dulchich offers hope. In a season starved of TE production (outside of Kelce & Andrews), the Broncos rookie TE played 71% of snaps and saw a very solid 19.7% targets per route run. Dulchich caught six of nine passes (nice) for 51 yards and has become one of the Broncos' top options just two weeks into his career, despite 0 practice time this offseason. Add everywhere.

  • Parris Campbell over the last 2 weeks: 23 targets and almost a 25% target share. A QB change throws a wrench in things, for now. Still only 25 years old, stash Parris where you can.

  • Cade Otton was efficient and should be considered a Top 12 TE whenever Cameron Brate sits (Otton had 64 yards on five targets).

  • Nico Collins is worth adding in case Brandin Cooks is traded. Collins has been the teamā€™s best WR by PFF grade and leads the Texans in receiving yards despite seeing 20 fewer targets than Cooks.

Donā€™t buy the hype: Austin Hooper, Mecole Hardman.

QB: Sam Ehlinger gets his shot

The Colts benched QB Matt Ryan to start former 6th rounder Sam Ehlinger. The Colts are making the switch at QB regardless of Matt Ryan's shoulder injury. The plan, as of now, is for Sam Ehlinger to be the starting quarterback the rest of the season, per The Athletic's Zak Keefer. Why was Matt Ryan benched? Inside Coltsā€™ decision to start Sam Ehlinger (article).

Privately, this is a move theyā€™d been mulling for weeks. Ryan leads the league in fumbles (11), interceptions (nine) and sacks taken (24).

When Ehlinger was at the Senior Bowl, they compared him to Jalen Hurts; tough, physically put-together w/ good mobility and elite QB makeup. But maybe the Colts are tanking? They are 3-3-1 despite trailing 68% of the time, worst in the NFL. Donā€™t add yet, but keep an eye.

Add Malik Willis in deep leagues, wherever you have a roster spot. You can always drop him, but the mobile-backup QB has been compared to Lamar Jackson and could start with Titans starter Ryan Tannehill seen in a walking boot. If Tannehill's fine, drop Willis.

As for everyone else:

Trade Center

James Robinsons & J-E-T-S

After an MRI confirmed Jets RB Bryce Hall suffered a torn ACL, ending his promising rookie season, the Jets traded a 6th-round pick that could become a 5th to Jacksonville in exchange for RB James Robinson.

James Robinson probably takes over the early-down work, with Michael Carter taking passing downs. Robinson has been dealing with a knee injury but is now a low-end RB2/high-end RB3, per Dwain McFarland. Carter's role is bumped up slightly.

Travis Etienne should be a top-12 RB for the rest of the season and is a top-6 dynasty RB. JaMycal Hasty is next up behind Etienne, with rookie RB Snoop Conner likely involved some too.

Kareem Hunt to the Eagles?

Kareem Hunt & Eagles HC Nick Sirianni "enjoyed chatting it up during PHI/CLE joint practices in August." With word coming out of PHI offering a 3rd rounder for CMC (obviously not the best offer), donā€™t be surprised to see Howie Roseman make a run at Hunt before the trade deadline, per Drew DeLuca.

The Browns are listening to trade offers regarding Kareem Hunt, according to @StainbrookNFL. Hunt is slated for unrestricted free agency next March.

QUICK SLANTS

  • WR Mike Williams suffered a high ankle sprain and ā€œwill miss some time.ā€ It comes as the Chargers head into their bye week, so it's possible Big Mike returns in Week 9.

  • TE David Njoku also has a high ankle sprain that doesnā€™t require surgery. Heā€™ll likely miss 3-4 weeks.

  • WR DK Metcalf was carted off on Sunday (knee) but wonā€™t need surgery, per (not a) Dr. Pete Carroll. It appears to be a patella injury and DK's status is unclear.

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown did not suffer a concussion, was removed because of new protocol. Great news.

  • Eno Benjamin earned an 87.4 rushing grade while picking up 78 yards after contact at 6.5 yards per clip, making it likely he steals some work from James Conner. NFL Week 7: One up, one down for all 32 teams.
