Bengals stars shine and all updates from around the NFL...

Good morning. We've passed the 1/3 mark on the NFL season. Time flies when you're suffering through owning any TE not named Kelce or Andrews (yes you, Kyle Pitts). Even if the season hasn't gone your way so far, it could be worse...

You could've pulled a Nathaniel Hackett and spent $230 million and 5 draft picks on Mr. Unlimited (video):

Russell Wilson got an MRI for a hamstring injury as is considered day-to-day. He will push to still say "Let's Ride", per reports.

Today's newsletter has a position-by-position review, more fantasy football content and the latest updates from around the league.

QUARTERBACKS

Burrow's Back

Despite a slow start, Joe Burrow, the QB1 of Week 6, is top 5 in passing yards and passing TDs. After 4 INTs in his first game, he's only thrown one pick and is now 4th in the NFL in lowest interception/attempt, at just 2.2%. He has 10 TD passes to 1 INT since Week 1.

  • Despite only throwing 14 passes, Marcus Mariota was QB5. It helped that he ran for 50 yards and a TD and that 2/14 passes went for TDs. The Falcons are now 3-0 when Mariota completes 13 passes or fewer. Wild.

  • Matt Ryan had his best game of the season, finishing as QB2. Why? Jonathan Taylor was out again, and Ryan attempted 58 passes!! Don't expect this going forward.

  • Russell Wilson is officially droppable. He threw for a pedestrian 188 yards and 1 TD against the Chargers and suffered a hamstring injury. But heck, we've got some good memes out of it.

As for Trevor Lawrence, the QB4, he looks ready to run an early level Pokémon gym:

RUNNING BACKS

Young Studs

Bill Belichick kept his word. After heaping praise on Huddle favorite (and 2nd-year RB) Rhamondre Stevenson, the Pats gave him a bell-cow workload. Stevenson rewarded the 23 touches with 91 yards and 2 TDs, good for 25+ points. He saw 85% of snaps and 90% in Week 5, the two highest snap shares for a New England RB since 2015. He's in the RB1 conversation with this usage.

  • Deon Jackson proved deep dives don't miss. Tied for RB1 on the week, Deon put up more points in Week 6 than Jonathan Taylor has since midseason last year. Jackson has value whenever Taylor and Hines miss time.

  • Kenneth Walker was a bellcow (21 of 30 rushing attempts) and delivered 97 yards and a TD. He has broken 22 tackles on 44 rushing attempts, highest % in the NFL. He looks like a league-winner.

  • Leonard Fournette is the one good thing in Tampa Bay, as he's tied for 3rd for most TDs over the past four. He's also 2nd in the NFL amongst RBs in snaps played, still a focal point of TB's offense.

A quick twitter thread on the Christian McCaffrey trade market for the Panthers, by Charles Robinson. The key takeaway:

I think #Panthers deal McCaffrey if a trade yields assets that help the team land one of the “elite” QB prospects in the 2023 draft. If dealing CMC doesn’t produce enough capital to help with that (likely including a 1st rounder), he likely sticks in Carolina past the deadline

Over the last two weeks, Clyde Edwards Helaire has finished RB40 and RB46. He only out snapped Mckinnon by 2 snaps and has 48 rushing yards in his past two games.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Chasing Ja'Marr

Ja'Marr Chase had the monster week we've been waiting for. He is now 8th in receiving yards and 5th in TDs and will continue to put up WR1 numbers. Chase is also not a fan of Mike Gesicki's Griddy.

  • Tyreek Hill could break Calvin Johnson's single season receiving record, as he's on pace for 1,986 receiving yards. Hill is leading the league in receiving (701 yards) despite three different QBs. Tua should return in Week 7, boosting Hill's ceiling.

  • Juju Smith Schuster had 113 yards and scored his first TD as a Chief. After the game JuJu said his chemistry with Mahomes will "keep getting better and better."

  • AJ Brown and Devonta Smith are on pace to have over 1,000 receiving yards and both have target shares of 30.6% and 24.9%, making them the highest targeted duo in the NFL.

Allen Lazard had 76 yards and a TD in Week 6 and now has a TD in every single week except one. Lazard is clearly Rogers most trusted target and has had top 30 finishes in each of the last 4 weeks. Buy quietly.

TIGHT END

Griddy's for Gesicki?

Mike Gesicki was TE1 and promised to stop griddying. Successful weekend. It was only the second time Gesicki finished a week with double digit fantasy points. He has not been utilized as a pass-catcher, and Dolphins are listening to offers. A change of scenery would be welcomed, but keep an eye on him. If usage like last week sticks, he's a valuable pickup.

  • Robert Tonyan had a season high 27.3% target share in Week 6, finishing with 10 catches for 90 yards. Only 5 TE's have been targeted on a higher % of their routes. Trending up, especially with Randall Cobb slated to miss time.

The Kansas City Chiefs have restructured Travis Kelce's contract, possibly to clear space to sign a FA? OBJ?

Giants rookie TE Daniel Bellinger played a career high 94% of snaps, led the team in receiving (38 yards) and had a TD. Potential sleeper as his snap share has risen each week.

Thanks for this, Jared.

QUICK SLANTS

  • Nate Hackett said moving forward they will need "all 3 RB's". This comes after Nate gave Melvin Gordon just 3 carries while my matchup was on the line. Gordon expressed his disappointment publicly and through his twitter likes.

  • Keenan Allen is expected back at practice this week, putting him on track to play for the first time since Week 1.

  • Eno Benjamin should start again on Thursday, after James Connor and Darrel Williams both missed practice yesterday.

  • Reports say Mac Jones' relationship with the Patriots has gotten "sideways" after the Pats hired a defensive coach as his OC and he got surgery during the offseason against their advice.

Something about NFL football feels off, right? Sluggish?

That's because the first 6 weeks of fantasy scoring are the lowest in THIRTEEN YEARS. Down 22% from last year. We're seeing it in the (Broncos) primetime games. There's a severe shortage of consistently high-powered offenses.

We're watching anyways. Bring on the pain.
