đ Hey, stop yelling at Daniel Jones
Kyle Shanahan's driving us crazy, Jon Gruden is crazy, and why Will Fuller may be cursed.
Good morning, welcome back to another edition of the Morning Huddle. Eddie, Resident Cowboy fan here, and I am pumped that Week 2 is right around the corner.
Letâs get into it.
Raider Down
Josh Jacobs was able to play through his toe and ankle injury last week but will miss the Raiders Week 2 matchup against the Steelers. Splitting downs with Jacobs, Kenyan Drake had 5 receptions for 59 yards but only 11 yards rushing Week 1. Drake becomes a low-end RB2, high-end RB3 in a tough matchup.
Peyton Barber will be involved as wellâŠ
Jon Gruden made sure to make that point clear, naming Peyton Barber the lead back.
Thanks Jon.
San Francisco Mysterys
While every league had an owner that blew their FAAB budget to pickup Elijah Mitchell, reports came out that Trey Sermon has been âextra focused and aggressiveâ this past week in practice. Whatever that means.
I still believe Sermon sees a significant role as the season goes on, but trying to figure out this backfield looks to be a nightmare.
Kyle Shanahan also slightly changed his tune of what he said earlier in the week, stating Brandon Aiyuk wouldâve got his spot completely back if not for his hamstring injury. Thatâs a relief for some concerned fantasy owners - but it may take another week before he gets fully unleashed, making Aiyuk a risky start in Week 2.
Is Will Fuller Cursed?
Serious question.
In a bizarre press conference, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Will Fuller will not be playing Week 2 due to a personal matter. More importantly, Flores did not confirm when (or if) Fuller will return this season??
Fingers crossed that this is nothing serious so Will can get back on the field soon, but drafting Fuller always came with a risk of missing several games a year. This makes Jaylen Waddle a WR3 option, as his talent was on full display Week 1 (4 receptions for 61 yards and a TD) without Fuller.
NYG in Shambles
Daniel Jones played the best football in of career on Thursday night, but the Giants still fell short to Heinicke and the WFT.
Apparently, Kenny Golladay didnât feel it was good enough, yelling at Daniel Jones:
Someone should tell Golladay to get open.
Also, if anyone knows how vanilla Jason Garrettâs offensive scheme is, itâs Cowboys fans like myself.
Quick Hits
Jamison Crowder is questionable for Week 2 with a groin injury. If he plays, heâll cut into Elijah Mooreâs reps. Moore is coming off a difficult first game of his career. Other than Cory Davis I wouldnât be playing any Jets. Starting rookie QBâs against Bill Belichick usually doesnât end well**
Jonnu Smith is questionable against the Jets. Donât see any chance of him missing the game as of right now - but check before kickoff
Marquise Brown is questionable against the Chiefs but he got in a limited practice Friday and should play. Lamar needs all the weapons he can get.
J.D McKissic caught 5-6 targets for 83 yards on Thursday. Most of his yards came on a 56-yard pass, so heâs not a must-add right now but this is annoying for Gibson owners who hoped to see McKissicâs role reduced.
Tyrell Williams most likely will not play Sunday due to a concussion. T.J. Hockenson might see a Waller-esque role on Sunday. The Lions RBs should also see plenty of looks in the passing game. Swift and Williams combined for 16 receptions on 20 targets Week 1.
**Besides a loss to the Tua-Tagaviola-led Dolphins in 2020, Belichick hasnât lost to a rookie QB since 2013.
NOTE: Weâre thinking of bringing our rankings back and updating them once a week during the season - this should help with trades and waiver pickups. Send us a comment if youâd be interested!
Tweet of the Day
Thatâs all for today folks - have a great weekend.
