Welcome to the Morning Huddle. Wentz is Antzy, Dan Campbell rocks, and Devonta Smith has got it.
Good morning everyone - and welcome to our new subscribers!! My name is Eddie and, as Jacob mentioned, I will be writing the Saturday and Tuesday editions of the Morning Huddle. As an avid Cowboys fan, I can promise that my articles wonât be as mediocre as the Cowboys have been the last quarter-century. I know how much 8-8 sucks.
***Cue the mediocre Jason Garrett clap for all our subscribers***
Another day, another sh*t preseason game
Another useless set of preseason games in the books with the Patriots dominating the Eagles 35-0, and some other scores in Bengals v Washington & Chiefs v Cardinals. Aside from the score, there were a couple of takeaways from the Eagles Pats game.
Both Pats QBâs looked good. With Mac Jones completely outplaying Cam in their first game, it was nice seeing Cam look like a competent QB in game two. Letâs keep in mind the Eagles stink. My bet is Cam sees the field first in Week 1, but doesnât hold the job past Week 4. Hereâs how they did:
We love you Dan Campbell
Before he became the Lions head coach, Campbell served as an assistant coach for Tony Sparano, Joe Philbin, and Sean Payton. Five of these years were spent on Payton's coaching staff as Assistant Head Coach. Heâs learned from the best & heâs ready to rumble.
Also, you can never have too much Dan Campbell content. Whatever the sportsbook have the Lions at to win this year, bet the over. If you listen to this clip, youâll understand why. Dan Campbell is absolutely nuts:
Dan Campbell will turn the Lions around. If anyone can do it, itâs him. He will then run for President in 2024. Heâs got my vote.
Eagles got a gem
Devonta Smith looks as good as advertised. The amount of separation he was getting off the line was impressive and - if he had a QB that could throw a spiral - he wouldâve had a few more catches. Knee looks good and (if he can stay healthy) Smith should easily lead the Eagles in targets in what is a mediocre receiver room. Donât forget, he was the first WR to win the Heisman since 1991.
If you donât know how much separation Smith got, watch this.
Jalen Hurts missed the game due to a stomach infection. He tested negative for Covid so it looks like a one-game absence, but he needs all the reps he can get with the team because they look awful (Go Cowboys)
Jaguars fans be like
Iâm not sure if this is funny or just sad, but first-overall pick Trevor Lawrence is still splitting first-team reps with Gardiner Minshew. I wish it was a joke. Lawrence, the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck, is an athletic 6-foot-5, 213 pounds with an outstanding arm. His raw stats were incredible (90 TDs, 17 INTs in 40 games) and adding to Lawrence's appeal is his mobility, as he ran for 776 yards and 17 TDs over the past two seasons.
Rookie QBs are rarely reliable fantasy starters, but Lawrence's mobility and weapons led by DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., Travis Etienne and James Robinson gives him a shot. He has QB1 upside in dynasty leagues and should be drafted everywhere. Unless Jaguars coach Urban Meyer keeps this upâŠ
Wentzâs prayers are answered
Wentzâs original timeline was 5-12 weeks (not vague at all) and he already wants to play in the 3rd week of that timeline. Given his injury history the Colts are probably right to be cautious. Wentz, after all, is made of glass.
With all-world G Quenton Nelson also possibly suiting up Week 1, Jonathan Taylor is sliding too far down draft boards. Taylor was the RB1 the final few weeks of the 2022 season and by far the most talented back in Indy, running behind a top o-line.
Also, have you ever seen a sentence repeated three times in one tweet? No? Well now you have:
Fight Club
Sterling Shepard got into it with the Browns Troy Hill at practice. If youâre into comedy, check out the pics from the fight:
Quick Hits
Deebo Samuel took himself out of practice and was getting checked on by the training staff. Doesnât seem major but keep an eye on this going forward. Has quite the injury history and is losing valuable reps to Aiyuk.
5 deeeep sleeper TEs - donât leave your draft without one
For anyone who wants to try going Zero RB this year, read this article. It explains who your targets are and why it makes sense.
Broncos passed on Justin Fields because he has epilepsy. Crazy. Especially considering all the issues Drew Lock has.
