Trevor Lawrence says f*** the Jets - Oct 28
Welcome to the Oct 28th edition of the Morning Huddle. Yesterday was waiver claim day, so I hope you were successful in your claim for Chase Edmonds. If not, you might want to go check for JaMycal Hasty or DeeJay Dallas. For the sources and in-depth articles/tweets, follow the links. As always, the top stories from across the NFL:
Trevor Lawrence does not want to play for Adam Gase
And I don’t blame him. The sad thing is, the Jets are so bad they could have the first overall pick for the next two years. Or at least until they fire Adam Gase.
Trevor Lawrence, considered to be the next generational talent at QB, could possibly pull an Eli Manning - refusing to sign and demanding a trade if he is drafted by the New York Jets. It would be better for football if Lawrence does not end up under Adam Gase’s tutelage, which almost ruined the career of Ryan “MVP” Tannehill.
Matt Patricia acquires a talented defensive player instead of trading one away
For the first time in history, Lions coach Matt Patricia traded for a defensive player to help the team. This offseason, Patricia sent the beloved and elite CB Darius Slay to the Eagles in exchange for two draft picks. There was severe backlash.
Yesterday, the Lions acquired DE Everson Griffen from the Cowboys in exchange for a conditional 2021 sixth-round pick. Griffen is expected to immediately improve the Lions struggling pass rush. Maybe Patricia learned his lesson?
Double the Witching Hours
The NFL adjusted the upcoming Sunday schedule for Week 10: The Bengals and Steelers will now play at 4:25 PM. That Sunday there are only five games at 1:00PM, and seven!! games in the afternoon slate.
It’s official - Dez is a Raven
Rumours were swirling last week, but now it’s finally happened: WR Dez Bryant signed to the Ravens practice squad. The long-time Cowboys WR missed the entire 2019 season after tearing his achilles in November 2018. He last played in 2017, putting up a respectable 838 yards on 69 (nice) catches.
He shouldn’t be on the fantasy football radar unless you’re in deeeep leagues. Wait until more news of a promotion arrives: the Ravens WR group is thin behind Mark Andrews and Marquise Brown.
The Infirmary: Quick injury updates
Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds is expected to be the team's primary ball carrier with Kenyan Drake out. Drake is expected to miss the next few weeks with an ankle injury. In Edmonds two career games with more than 11 touches, he’s scored 35 and 21.5 fantasy points.
The Seahawks backfield is a mess. After Chris Carson left Week 7’s game with an injury, Carlos Hyde filled in admirably and looked like a priority for Week 8. Wrong. Hyde is now dealing with hamstring tightness and is uncertain to play against the 49ers this week. Due to Covid-19 protocol, it will be very difficult for the Seahawks to sign another RB before their upcoming matchup. This week offers a big opportunity for rookie RB DeeJay Dallas.
All signs point to the return of Christian McCaffrey, and we should find out later today whether he will suit up Thursday night. However, it is unlikely the Panthers rush back the highest-paid RB in the league, especially when Mike Davis is just as good.
BONUS:
Budda Baker was mic'd up for the OT thriller vs. the Seahawks - you can hear his reaction to the D.K. Metcalf chase-down
Highest passer rating when targeted (keep in mind, the perfect passer rating is 158.3: 1) Chase Claypool-156.3 2) A.J. Brown-153.7 3) Mecole Hardman-150.0
Double-check your waiver wire RIGHT NOW for any of these guys
That’s all for today folks - as always, thank you, and let me know any updates or suggestions you have, or just compliments about the Morning Huddle.
Question of the day: How high is too high a price for Chase Edmonds? Who is the top player you are willing to sell to acquire the Cards RB?
