🏈 How much coffee, Mr. Campbell?

JK Dobbins returns. Jameis, Christian Kirk and Becton leave. Melvin Gordon & Chris Olave spotlights.

Good morning. We've got something great tonight: the season premiere of Hard Knocks, coming straight from Detroit. Time to inject Dan Campbell's daily 80 ounces of coffee and four shots of espresso-energy straight into the veins. Note: Don't try it at home (video).

His order: Two venti coffees from Starbucks with two espresso shots in each (more than 1,100 mg of caffeine). That's the equivalent of drinking 10 Red Bulls...every single morning.

We're huge Dan Campbell fans. But it's fantasy football time - let's get into it.

The Biggest Story

A stroll through Injury Land

Baltimore Sun

Per @jeffzrebiec, Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins passed his physical and was activated from the PUP. "IF there are no setbacks, there's plenty of time for him to ramp up and play in Week 1." Dobbins returns after averaging 6.0 (SIX!!) YPC in 2020, to a role where a washed Devonta Freeman scored more than 10 pts a game in 7/10 games last season (despite handling less than 60% of snaps almost every game). Last time they had a healthy backfield, the Ravens employed the NFL's most run-heavy offense (55%): HC John Harbaugh said the run-first approach is "here to stay." Dobbins is a screaming value in drafts at his current ADP.

Zrebiec also speculated that RB Gus Edwards will likely start the season on the PUP list and may even miss a third of the season.

The Hype

Vets: A Miracle in Jacksonville

All signs pointed to a Travis Etienne breakout season, but I drafted Etienne. And I can't be happy. So, of course, James Robinson is taking reps with the first team. From Sports Illustrated's Jaguar Report:

Still, Etienne's been lighting up camp and is consistently praised by Jaguars reporters for his burst - something Robinson may be lacking after his achilles tear, a notoriously difficult injury for RBs to return from.

  • First team snap percentage through Seahawks training camp: Rashaad Penny: 92% Ken Walker III: 8%. Penny is only 5 picks ahead of Walker in ADP.

Rookie of the Day: Meet Chris Olave

The 11th overall selection and Ohio State product is reportedly dominating Saints camp. The 6'0" 187-pound wideout has been the clear leader in targets. With route running like this, we see why:

Running Back the Clock with Melvin Gordon

  1. Why Melvin Gordon will still impact the Denver Broncos' Offense by Jeff Legwold. It's the truth no one wants to hear. One nugget: "Hackett and his staff intend to make the team's running backs a bigger part of the passing game than in recent Broncos seasons, and that is where Gordon could find plenty of snaps."

  2. Sleeper RBs to Win Your League by Brian Drake. Not just a great podcaster, Drake outlines RBs to target with an average draft position over 100. Love his Isaiah Pacheco take: "Here’s a league-winning type pick. A kid who runs 4.37 in the forty, can catch the football and plays for Andy Reid. He’s going to need to supplant Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but with the work CEH has on tape, is the going to be too hard?"

  3. The below chart is helpful when considering drafting players coming off ACL injuries (click here for a full list of players returning from 2021 ACL tears).

Podcast: The Most Aggressive Fantasy Football Draft Picks at Every Position

In this wide-ranging episode, RotoViz's Ben Gretch and Shawn Siegele break down some "aggressive" options to target during all types of fantasy football drafts. They key in on guys with league-winning upside and where you should target them in drafts.

Timestamps for players they are high on:

  • [2:00] Kyle Pitts

  • [14:30] JK Dobbins. Some interesting comps to Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry 👀

  • [35:00] Trey Lance is "seriously undervalued in drafts." Still.

  • [52:00] A number of young WRs including Drake London, Treylon Burks, and DeVonta Smith.

Overtime

Quick Slants

  • NFL owners are expected to approve the $4.65 billion sale of the Denver Broncos to the Walton-Penner group, led by Walmart heir Rob Walton. It establishes a new all-time high price paid for any sports franchise and really motivates us to start saving 5% of each paycheck.

  • Raiders coach Josh McDaniels ended speculation over a potential Josh Jacobs trade.

  • Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. are teasing a potential reunion in Buffalo. Which would actually have big fantasy implications down the stretch, bumping down any Bills pass-catcher not named Stefon Diggs.

  • The Ravens and All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker have reached an agreement on a 4-year extension. Someone tell them to pay their QB next - Lamar Jackson made $3 million last year, $23 million less than Jimmy Garoppolo.

  • George Pickens might be my favorite rookie WR:
