The Raiders face the music

Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports the Raiders have been fined $500,000 and stripped of a 2021 sixth-round draft pick for "protocol violations related to OT Trent Brown’s positive test in late October."

Jon Gruden has also been fined $150,000, because the Raiders were deemed to be "repeat offenders." With Covid-19 cases rising across the league, look for the NFL to be more diligent in their enforcement.

In other Raiders news, keep an eye on Josh Jacobs, who missed practice with a knee injury (and the Raiders promoted Theo Riddick, cause for concern).

Speaking of Covid-19…

The NFL and the NFL Players Association are investigating 49ers WR Kendrick Bourne for possible violations of the league's COVID-19 protocols (and costing me the chance to start Aiyuk). Bourne tested positive for the virus (then tested negative), but was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The NFL is looking into whether he "was wearing a face covering as required by the COVID-19 rules."

The Texans shut down facilities after a player tested positive for Covid-19. Doesn’t seem to be any bigger than a single issue, but keep an eye on this.

The Eagles also announced that a player tested positive for Covid-19, the Chiefs said a staff member contracted the virus.

What’s good in Miami’s backfield?

After Myles Gaskin was placed on the IR, the obvious add was Matt Breida. Not so fast. Breida missed practice yesterday and is questionable to play in Week 9. Maybe Jordan Howard is the answer? Maybe it’s recently signed DeAndre Washington? Maybe just avoid this backfield altogether. Or go all-in on Patrick Laird, obviously.

Coach Brian Flores ominously said Matt Breida (hamstring) has just a "chance" for Week 9 against the Cardinals.
