🏈 Two fingers, but no peace sign

Urban Meyer goes viral, Week 4 Waivers, Damien Williams, and the most important TE pickup of the year.

Good morning. What a weekend we had - upsets, disappointments, injuries, and more. The icing on the cake? Urban Meyer’s 4th-consecutive-loss celebration going viral. Read on.

Waiver Your Problems Goodbye:

The waiver wire is hot, with 4 weeks of info (and plenty of injuries) to judge. These players could win your league for you. Ranked in order of priority:

Bears RB David Montgomery suffered knee injury vs. Lions

Damien Williams

Bears starting RB David Montgomery suffered a brutal knee injury Sunday, opening the door for Damien Williams. The same Damien Williams who had 133 Total Yds & 2 TDs in Super Bowl LIV.

Before Montgomery went down, he had 22.5 points in just 62% of snaps. Remember when we told you Matt Nagy relegated play-calling to Bill Lazor? And a huge RB fantasy jump was incoming? Damien Williams is now the main beneficiary.

  • 15+ PPG wouldn’t be shocking. Sure, Montgomery will be back, but we don’t know the extent of the injury. Now go grab a starting RB.

  • In deep leagues, might as well grab Khalil Herbert.

Dawson Knox

Does anyone have a stronger bond with Josh Allen?

Image

Plus, Knox is good at football.

The only other TE in Buffalo to even run a route this season is Tommy Sweeney, who now sits at 11 total routes run through four weeks.

  • Knox is the only TE you can confidently grab off the waivers and start every week. He’s the top priority for anyone needing a TE.

Sam Darnold

Currently the QB5, Sam Darnold is no longer seeing ghosts. He’s also running the ball, giving him Konami-type upside at the QB position (5 rushing TDs and 20+ fantasy points per game).

Trey Lance

After Jimmy G suffered a calf injury, Trey Lance took over. In just one half of football, Lance put up almost 20 fantasy points, showing the upside he offers (and he didn’t even play well).

So why is Lance not higher?

  • The Athletic's Tim Kawakami said "nobody" in the 49ers organization was ready for Trey Lance to take over as the team's starting quarterback so early in the season. Apparently, the plan was for Garoppolo to lead the Niners offense as long as possible.

This means two things:

  1. The 49ers plan to give Jimmy G the opportunity to win his job back (or start, if healthy).

  2. Trey Lance could impress and win the job for the remainder of the season. I’d grab Lance, see how next week goes, then drop if needed. His upside is crazy high.

Kadarius Toney

Oh shoot he’s actually talented:

Van Jefferson

Remember Robert Woods? Yeah? Well, Van Jefferson is him now. Might be time to grab Jefferson before everyone realizes.

  • The son of a football coach (must be smart), the 2nd year WR is currently WR25 on the season and could continue to see more opportunities on the high-scoring Rams offense.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

  • Cordarelle Patterson: If he’s still available, you need better competition.

  • Wayne Gallman: Stole 10 snaps, 6 carries, plus 1 target from Mike Davis. Gallman could easily steal the entire backfield.

  • Randall Cobb: The Athletic's Matt Schneidman said consistent production from Randall Cobb "could unlock" Green Bay's offence. Matt LaFleur have an Athletic subscription?

Urban’s Bad Behaviour

A video of Urban Meyer, the Jags HC and former HC at Ohio State, went viral Saturday. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a video of Meyer getting fired.

The video shows a young, blonde woman grinding on Meyer at his restaurant in Ohio. Meyer has been married to his wife, Shelley, since 1986.

Rather than join the team flight home, Meyer decided to stay in Ohio and do this:

Those fingers are in all the wrong places Urban. What makes a sad situation worse, Urban’s wife Shelley posted this hours before:

Quick Slants

  • Justin Herbert was “surrounded by boos” as he took the field for warmups last night. It was a home game. The Chargers fan base < Matt Nagy’s play-calling.

  • 49ers QB Jimmy G is only week-to-week after suffering an injury Sunday, George Kittle and Trent Williams are both day-to-day. Two of those are great news for the 49ers.

  • WR drops don’t matter - Drops don’t translate year-over-year and shouldn’t be used in any analysis. If anything, the best players get so open they overthink the catch:

Tweet of the Day

Of course, the internet remains undefeated.

You can see Urban’s official apology here. Better yet, watch the Pat McAfee reaction. Rumours circulating that Urban took down Facebook to hide unseen angles…

Question of the Day

With the game against the Broncos won, Lamar Jackson rushed for 4-yards, rather than kneel. This was important to the Ravens as were 3 yards away from tying the record for most consecutive games with 100+ rushing yards (43). Should they have done it?

Vic Fangio didn’t think so.

What do you think? Was this poor sportsmanship, or players be able to chase records?

Thanks for joining me this morning. What a weekend.
