🏈 Zach Wilson or Joe Flacco?
Garrett Wilson, Bible Narratives, and Jalen Hurts hype.
Good morning. Managing a fantasy football team is a bit like managing a real NFL team: You're probably better at it than former Giants GM Dave Gettleman, who's responsible for this:
The Giants can't just cut Kenny Golladay for those wondering.
His cap implications for the next 2 years:
2022:
-$21.15M cap hit
-$35.6M dead money
-Negative $14.45M if cut2023:
-$21.4M cap hit
-$14.7M dead money
-$6.7M in savingsNeed to trade him if want to get rid.

The Hype
Risers: Trending Up
Jalen Hurts // CBS Sports
An Eagles beat writer gave Jalen Hurts "an A" for today's camp performance, continuing the narrative that he's taken the next step as a passer. Hurts is being drafted as a top 5 QB (for his running ability) - an improvement in his passing game could elevate him to QB1. And it's all been good:
"Since I've gotten here, his deep ball is amazing. I see him get better every day. The work ethic he puts in, it trickles down to the whole team" -@JCTSports
OC Shane Seichen calls Jalen Hurts preseason performance "flawless" against the Jets - @Eliotshorrparks
The Giants will give Saquon Barkley "a huge workload" this season despite his injury history. Saquads feels "free and loose" this year. If healthy, Barkley will have an elite fantasy season.
Packers WR Romeo Doubs continues to shine in camp. Despite his ADP climbing 15 spots over the past two weeks, the upside remains enormous.
"[Doubs] has seemingly passed every test the Packers have thrown at him." - Packers' reporter Rob Demovsky.
"Can't keep [Doubs] from making a play in practice." - Packers beat writer Ryan Wood.
Dameon Peirce was PFF's highest rated RB in the first week of preseason and reports out of Texans camp say that "by the first month of the season, Pierce could take over the starting role."
Michael Pittman Jr. and Stephon Gilmore went at it yesterday. Pittman ran a gorgeous double move that put Gilmore on skates down the sideline.
Michael Thomas will be ready to run slants by Week 1 this season. Slant boy is officially back!
Antonio Gibson stock continues its free fall.
Kenneth Walker // Seahawks
Antonio Gibson was seen practicing with the 3rd-team and punt unit yesterday.
HC Ron Rivera essentially said the starting RB job is up for grabs. Gibson could be behind rookie Brian Robinson Jr., who's a steal at a much later ADP. Treat Gibson like that old classmate you see in public: avoid him.
Pete Carroll said rookie RB Kenneth Walker has a hernia issue that he's "working on." These typically require surgery.
2-8 weeks recovery for hernia surgery is typical. Rashod Bateman took nine last year.
Opportunity for Rashaad Penny to solidify his role, with potential upside for more.
The Big Story
Zach Wilson: No Average Joe
Joe Flacco // NFL.com
The good: Rich Cimini reported that Zach Wilson's knee surgery was a success and there were no surprises from the original diagnosis.
The bad: Joe Flacco. Remember him? The guy who gets older every year? Yesterday, the Jets had "one of the offenses best days of training camp" with Flacco at QB.
Per Brian Drake, Zach Wilson was #1 (not a good thing) in PFF's least accurate catchable passes metric w/ 31% of his "catchable" balls off target.
Wilson was also the 34th-worst QB in 2021, per PFF. And Brady Quinn called Wilson a fraud.
It's not a stretch to say the Jets are more competitive with Flacco at the helm. Just ask 10th overall pick Garrett Wilson: "There’s definitely a difference...(Flacco) does a good job of making the passes receiver-friendly. That’s the best way I can put it into words."
Rookie of the Day: Meet Garrett Wilson
Speaking of Garrett Wilson, the Jets rookie has been lighting up Jets camp lately. HC Robert Saleh described Wilson as "the ultimate competitor." After years of mediocrity the Jets are hopeful Wilson, along with our boy Elijah Moore, can give the Jets the offensive firepower they desperately need.
What they're saying:
"Wilson looked very shifty and explosive in the open field -@BPOK24
"Garrett Wilson has some legit ability after the catch. 17 in space is fun to watch" - @eallenjets
Strong debut from Garrett Wilson
Inside/outside versatility and knows how to consistently get open (that 1st throw is one you expect the QB to hit)
He should see favorable matchups early playing alongside Elijah Moore

Pod: Drafting to Win
Win Your Fantasy League by Targeting Uncertainty by Mike Leone of Establish The Run. The first 10 minutes of the pod covers draft strategy and how most fantasy players want safe, tangible assets. This leads to enormous opportunity to profit from targeting uncertain situations:
[11:00] Targeting QB Changes: JuJu Smith-Schuster
[16:40] Denver WRs Corps: Jerry Jeudy
Articles: QB Targets + RB Beasts
Hint: Trey Lance is a QB to target
The QB whisperer, Scott Barrett, is back with an article that lays down his favorite QB's to target in this year's draft. This is the same analyst who begged everyone to draft:
Patrick Mahomes in '18 (his breakout szn)
Lamar Jackson in '19 (his breakout szn)
Jalen Hurts in '21 (his breakout szn)
TLDR: QB's don't rlly matter, so don't draft them too early. But if you do, get a Konami (mobile) QB. And read the article. To give you an idea of the depth of Scott's analysis:
Juggernaut Running Backs: What They Look Like and How To Find Them. Ryan Heath unveils the newly branded Juggernaut Process: A statistical approach to finding the next Christian McCaffrey.
"Najee Harris, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon, and D’Andre Swift form a clear tier of players who closely resemble juggernauts at the back end of the first round. Personally, Cook and Harris were the biggest risers for me after completing the study. If I were to subjectively fade one, it would be Mixon."
Overtime
Quick Slants
Drew Lock tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the next game against the Bears. Geno Smith will start.
Courtland Sutton appears to be Russell Wilson's favorite target. There is no stronger force in football than “The Bible Narrative" (video).
Chris Godwin participated in 7 on 7 drills today and looked smooth in his cuts and routes. Being ready for the season opener seems a real possibility.
